A USEFUL LITTLE GUIDE

Getting more detail into 150 KB with WebP

WebP typically reaches the same visual quality as JPG at a noticeably smaller size, so a 150 KB budget holds about 1,280 × 850 px of photo detail—more than a JPG at the same limit (about 1,070 × 710 px).

WebP keeps transparent backgrounds, which makes it a good fit for cutouts and logos. Check that the destination accepts .webp before uploading; if not, pick JPG or PNG in the output menu. Animated WebP files are exported as a still image.

Size estimates assume a typical photograph at good quality. Detailed or noisy images need more bytes; flat graphics need fewer.

How we protect your privacy
BEHIND THE SMALLER FILE

How image compression works.

Not every image needs every byte. For JPG and WebP, we search for a quality level that fits your chosen size. If that’s not enough, we gradually reduce the dimensions, keeping the original proportions.

PNG works differently: its browser encoding is lossless. If your target needs a format change, you make that choice. You can always compare the preview and check the final size before downloading.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few little answers.

Everything you need to make
your next image a little lighter.

Is WebP smaller than JPG at 150 KB?

At the same 150 KB limit, WebP usually keeps more pixels and detail than JPG—roughly 1,280 × 850 px versus 1,070 × 710 px for a typical photo. Use it whenever the destination accepts WebP.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression happens directly inside your browser on shrinker.app. Your images are not uploaded to our servers. Selecting, previewing and downloading use local files and browser Blob URLs.

How do I compress an image to a specific KB size?

Choose a preset or enter a custom size, then select Compress Image. For JPG and WebP, the tool searches quality settings and reduces dimensions if necessary. Check the result size before submitting it elsewhere. One KB in this tool equals 1,024 bytes.

Does compression reduce image quality?

JPG and WebP compression can lose detail. The tool tries to retain the highest quality that meets your target at each resolution. PNG encoding is lossless, although resizing a PNG still removes pixel detail. Always check the preview.

Why is my PNG still larger than the target?

Canvas doesn't expose a lossy quality control for PNG. If lossless re-encoding can't reach your limit, choose an explicit conversion to WebP or JPG, or try larger target settings. WebP can preserve transparency; JPG uses a white background.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes. Use a current browser, choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image under 20 MB, and save the result to your device. Images above 40 megapixels or 16,384 pixels on either side are rejected to limit memory use.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Shrinker is free and doesn't require an account. There are no paid APIs or upload quotas. Advertisement spaces are reserved for future use; no advertising provider is currently connected.
