At one megabyte and above, compression is mostly about trimming oversized camera files. Quality can stay very high; the tool lowers dimensions only when a very large original still exceeds the limit.
A 1 MB budget holds roughly a 2,800 × 1,870 px JPG photo or a 3,350 × 2,230 px WebP photo at good quality. The compressor searches for the highest JPG or WebP quality that fits within 1,048,576 bytes. If quality alone is insufficient, it reduces dimensions in 15% steps while keeping the aspect ratio. PNG conversion always requires your choice.

| Typical JPG photo that fits | about 2,800 × 1,870 px (5.2 MP) |
| Typical WebP photo that fits | about 3,350 × 2,230 px (7.5 MP) |
| Typical PNG photo that fits | about 990 × 660 px (0.65 MP) |
| 12 MP phone photo (4000 × 3000) | likely needs resizing to around 2,800 px wide |
Size estimates assume a typical photograph at good quality. Detailed or noisy images need more bytes; flat graphics need fewer.
Your photos hold moments, memories and sometimes sensitive details. That’s why compression happens on your device. Your images are not uploaded to our servers.
How we protect your privacyNot every image needs every byte. For JPG and WebP, we search for a quality level that fits your chosen size. If that’s not enough, we gradually reduce the dimensions, keeping the original proportions.
PNG works differently: its browser encoding is lossless. If your target needs a format change, you make that choice. You can always compare the preview and check the final size before downloading.
Everything you need to make
your next image a little lighter.
Choose the image and press Compress Image—the 1 MB target is already set. Photos up to roughly 2800 × 1870 px usually fit with quality adjustment alone; larger ones are scaled down slightly.
No. Compression happens directly inside your browser on shrinker.app. Your images are not uploaded to our servers. Selecting, previewing and downloading use local files and browser Blob URLs.
Choose a preset or enter a custom size, then select Compress Image. For JPG and WebP, the tool searches quality settings and reduces dimensions if necessary. Check the result size before submitting it elsewhere. One KB in this tool equals 1,024 bytes.
JPG and WebP compression can lose detail. The tool tries to retain the highest quality that meets your target at each resolution. PNG encoding is lossless, although resizing a PNG still removes pixel detail. Always check the preview.
Canvas doesn't expose a lossy quality control for PNG. If lossless re-encoding can't reach your limit, choose an explicit conversion to WebP or JPG, or try larger target settings. WebP can preserve transparency; JPG uses a white background.
Yes. Use a current browser, choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image under 20 MB, and save the result to your device. Images above 40 megapixels or 16,384 pixels on either side are rejected to limit memory use.
